If you’re looking for a gift, I have a quirky guide here, but/and why not gift a paid subscription of r.w.e. to a pal who loves books, convivial conversation, writing, and recipes? Or treat yourself. It means so much to me, and I’m offering 15% off until Christmas Eve.

a perfect gift! 🎄🕎❄️

hey-ho,

Of course it’s time to trot out the “I got a robe!” skit from SNL. Why is it always funny? Well, because it’s over-the-top and there’s a kernel of truth at the heart. Because we want the holidays to be beautiful and festive for those we love, because moms get caught up in the myth that we are the sole joy bearers, that we must be selfless (looking at you Shel Silverstein and your stupid codependent tree). The decorations, the traditions, the food, the gifts… it all must be thoughtful and lovely and then light will shine from our family’s eyes and rest upon us. I love that for you and for me. But sometimes, somewhere in the whole hullabaloo we get lost. I want to say… I see you and I love you and I wish I could sit beside you in your darkened living room, munch on a cookie, and appreciate your tree! (Will you do me a solid and send a picture of your tree?)

The holidays aren’t easy for many of us. They can feel lonely and exhausting and hard, even when we’re surrounded by people who love us back. I encourage us all to be gentle with ourselves, to hug our people, to put ourselves in the path of beauty. Check this lovely message from a friend whom I’ve never met in person but whom I greatly admire. And she’s right, community will always see us through.

And now, my new favorite Christmas carol!

💫💫💫If you enjoy r.w.e. will you kindly pause to hit the ❤️ at the top left or bottom of this post? It sure does help in the substack scheme of things and gives me a lift! xoNatalie 💫💫💫

Down below I’ve got a wonderful ricciarelli recipe for you! What are ricciarelli? Italian macaroons of course, and these are gluten free. I’ve also got my top 12 reads of 2024, and games that deliver the laughs! So, grab a paid subscription and refill your beverage!

🙌🏻subscribing = supporting🥳
