love the mirror essay. Went thru something similar in my 40s, only it was Saks (disappointment at my marriage similar).....also thx for the carrot cake recipe. I have become the birthday cake baking grandma, and we haven't yet tried carrot cake.....

First, i'd love info on the novella class. Wonderful reflection on the craft and prompts to try. I resist too much, but love working with prompts. My husband just had a birthday and no cake. The hum of life just rumbled through it and I reatlly,really thought I'd make him a chocolate treat( his faves). I apologized with brownies...which we forgot to eat. Sláinte. x

My sister sent me your Mirror essay! I love your writing! I’m in the midst of Tom Lake right now. Inread anything Ann Patchett writes! I was just thinking last night how well everyone gets along.....so I laughed when I read your thoughts! I’m also in the midst of Banyan Moon which has plenty of strife.

Natalie, You asked what reading we had done recently that we would like to recommend. Here's mine. Even knowing that the genre of "women of World War II" has taken a stonghold on the American imagination lately, I wasn't especially intrigued when my daughter gifted me with "Nancy Wake, World War Two's Most Rebellious Spy." But once I started reading, I couldn't but it done. The women of that era were just so good at "taking it on the chin." Nancy and her exploits-a true story, by the way-just swept me along.
