Hi Hi,
Welcome to jewels 💎just for you! A weekly bonus for paid subscribers where I share one wonderful thing…okay, possibly two 💛💛 !
Come on in!
…
I’ve been wearing an Apple Watch, really a Nanny Watch, and I have complicated feelings. Due to some (minor) health concerns I decided I wanted to monitor activity—how often do I stand? how many active minutes a day? enough exercise? heart rate? blah, blah. Sure wearing the watch keeps me informed, but really, do I want to know that much? I find I’m often in a semi-anxious state with my sudden drive to close the rings.
Plus I hate receiving texts on my wrist. I don’t need to be that connected.
Having a nanny on my body flattens
the joy of just being and doing.
I left my watch behind for a roadtrip and a family wedding. What fun I had! So much pleasure and experiences and love available.
It made me think about the APPs I would rather have on my Nanny Watch.
First off, Merlin, the birding APP that monitors my exterior landscape. Look at this bird list from the last week:
House finch. Pygmy nuthatch. Western Bluebird. Western Gull. California Towhee. Pine Siskin. Bewick’s Wren. Black Phoebe. House Finch. Dark Eyed Junco. Chestnut-Backed Chickadee. Brown Creeper. California Quail. Belted Kingfisher. Barn Swallow. Common Raven. Spotted Towhee. Cedar Waxwing.
Can I point at birds and name them? No. But I delight in knowing they’re near. And, I delight in the names.
More APPs I could use:
new friends made
hugs I participated in
kind self-talk
fell in love with a poem? painting? book?
quiet time
compliments delivered
check-in w/a pal texts sent
time outside
apologies delivered
petty rifts mended
jokes remembered
laughed… whole belly, whole body
great meals eaten with pleasure
nice walk
said ‘I love you’
Okay, what am I missing? What APP would you want on your wrist?
In the last week I visited with family and friends, had terrific meals (a recipe below), saw two amazing plays, a museum show (pictures after the paywall), been on a couple ferry rides, and danced a ton! I closed so many important rings.
