hey-ho!

February is a short and cruel month. Tulips poke their heads up only to be pummeled by hail. The sun, when it visits, is weak as the third soak of a tea bag. In Tony Hoagland’s wonderful collection, WHAT NARCISSISM MEANS TO ME, there is a poem in which friends are sitting around trying their best to describe February.

Mary says it's like a pack of wild dogs who have gotten into medical waste,
and smiles because she clearly is the winner.

Wild dogs in medical waste?! What a line! And yes, that is February to me.

Except Valentine’s Day, which is lovely. Of course it is. Here Here for love! But the day also breaks many lonely hearts.

I don’t know, I guess we are all a little tender right now, exhausted and ready for spring. My kids have birthdays in late February and that’s always a boost. Plus, the grocery story sells pots of daffodils.

28 years later and I still wear overalls and white t-shirts!

What are you doing to boost your mood? Asking for friend.

And now, cake!

eat:

A lovely friend made me this delightful Chocolate Almond cake for my birthday. Then I baked it right away to bring to a dinner party where the cake and I were a huge hit! Now I’m sharing the recipe with you! Quick to make. So damn fudgy and delicious! Almond flour adds mild nuttiness, excellent cocoa powder makes all the difference. And it takes only a small slice to scratch the itch!
