I just finished Birnam Wood,by Eleanor Catton. Excellent story. I’d love to read Vergese’s book with a group!

yes, Demon Copperhead was a difficult read...and i couldn't put it down. i really appreciated hearing the recording of the Literary Arts event you attended...the conversation between Barbara Kingsolver and Jess Walter. her love for Demon and all the characters in the novel...and most importantly, Appalachia. (podcast: The Archive Project, Dec 3rd.) a reminder that we can love difficult people, real or fictional.

safe travels home!

Natalie, I'd love to read "Covenant of Water" with a Sunday morning group because it was suggested for my bookclub but members thought it too long for a single meetup and I agree. Reading it by sections would be perfect. I read "Caste" that way with a group of friends and found that method so satisfying. As to living with "my person," it helps me to remind myself that I'm the rational one in the room.

P.S. The AI example was hilarious. I'd love to try that for myself just for kicks.

Natalie, hi! I started reading Demon based on your recco and I am in love with this book, thank you! I don't read fiction all that often but Barbara Kingsolver is incredible - I would swear he is writing it! I'm only 200 pages in but so in awe of her writing, and her ability to fully put herself in this boy's experience, she is a shapeshifter!
