Welcome to jewels 💎just for you! Where I share one wonderful thing…okay, maybe two. Certainly not 40! 💛
I read somewhere, in a book or article, or I saw it in a movie, heard it on a podcast, noticed it at the museum… that some person had decided when he died, (I do remember it was a he) he wanted to divvy up his ashes into 40 yellow envelopes to be mailed to his friends. Said friends could then disperse the ashes as they saw fit… a lake, the ocean, an apple tree, a tiny urn on the mantle.
At first I thought it was a bit macabre. Yet the more I pondered, the more I found it to be a beautiful idea. The specificity… yellow envelopes, 40 friends. There would be 40 rituals, 40 send-offs. I sort of fell in love with the idea.
Then I realized I couldn’t measure up! Maybe I could scrape together 8 friends who wouldn’t be horrified to receive my cremains in the mail.
Sheesh. If I want to send 40 yellow envelopes, I’ve got some work do to before I die!
