Hi Hi-
“Go ahead, I’ll catch up…” This should actually be inscribed on my tombstone.
It’s a constant refrain to my husband when we’re on a discovery roam through a new place… or even at home. I’m pausing to snap a photo. I don’t want to feel his impatience. I scoot him along so I can get the shot.
I’m not surprised that many of my pictures are of doors. Mexico City, St. Petersburg (Florida), Toulouse, Brooklyn, Portland, Paris, San Miguel D’Allende, Collioure. What is it about doors… they are the lipstick of the house. The welcome, the bling, the personality, the desire to be seen (or not). The public face.
…
And then I came upon this poem by Derek Walcott today:
Love after Love
The time will come when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other’s welcome, and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
I’ve given you just a smidge, do follow this link to read the entire lovely and true poem.
What a beautiful thing, to greet yourself arriving at your own door. This long stay in France feels like that kind of arriving/recovering, “learning to love again the stranger who was your self.”
I wonder, could we all create our own doors, the exact door through which we would welcome ourselves? The door through which we enter our own hearts….what would yours look like?
Thanks for reading. I hope your day is filled with delicious food!
If you missed the last few jewels… no fear! Here they are: a book. cookies. melon salad. a novel. dance. poem. cake. friendship. school shopping. drawing. coffee cups. copying art. spices. beans. a short story. boobs.
To stay in the loop:
Tell your people you love them, and take care of your skin!

I love doors too!!
What a beautiful poem! Merci! Many of my saved photos are doors wherever I travel! I’m still on the hunt for the perfect door for my Portland home❣️
